My Credentials

Let me introduce myself. My name is Brian Jones. I live in Ffestiniog, North Wales and have been fly-fishing for over 55 years. Over that time I have improved my fishing, casting and watercraft skills with the assistance of some of the very best casters and anglers in the world. I have been lucky to fish not just in Wales but in Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, Canada, British Columbia, Norway and England and recently Sea Trout in Patagonia region of Argentina.
My fishing started as a young boy of 10 years old. Though previously I had dabbled with worms and spinners it was from that age that my joy and pleasure in fly fishing and fly tying started.
I tied my own flies with threads from my mothers sewing box and feathers beaten out of pillows as hackles. However it was that first trout hooked on my own creation that sealed my fishing destiny.
I am now:-
- an Angling Wales qualified UKCC Level 2 angling coach with knowledge to pass onto pupils so that they may enjoy the beauty the pleasure and excitement this marvellous past time has given me.
- currently the secretary of the Cambrian Fly Dressers Guild with renowned abilities for tying excellant salmon, sea trout and trout flies
My fishing experience over the years has taken me all around the UK and Ireland and have represented Wales Internationaly on three occasions. Laterally I have fished for salmon in Iceland, Canada and annually to my beloved Thurso river in Caithness, Scotland. So why not:
Book yourself a day to be remembered or book a day for that special person who will cherish it for life and who knows, just might be hooked like that ten year old boy all those years ago.
If you are on a family holiday here in Snowdonia, North Wales, book yourself in for an hour or two session as a taster of what might just be the best move of your life.
My aim is to get pupils to set-up their equipment so that their rod, reel and fly line and leader are correctly balanced to facilitate casting effortlessly and efficiently and enjoy the whole magic that fishing conjures up in the magnificent and relaxing scenery of the rivers and mountain lakes of Snowdonia.
My Fishing Policy
My policy is catch and release wherever possible on all rivers and upland lakes. However the trout in most of the local mountain lakes are very succesful spawners and hence produce more than the food supply is capable of sustaining. Therefore to maintain trout to a decent size and more importantly in a good helthy condition a sensible cull is required. So our local association has a limit of three fish per angler per visit.
